Acts of self sacrifice that pull us from the comfort zone will humble our flesh and allow us to not quench the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19). Doing the “norm” all the time in ministry can become very comfortable very quickly. We must consciously make efforts to try new, uncomfortable acts to stretch and humble our flesh, dying to our own desires and making way for God’s. For example, if there is a person that is upsetting you or causing anger in your life, do the opposite of what your flesh wants to do and act according to scripture. Instead of getting angry, upset, poor attitude, or just plain mean, show an act of love and kindness towards this person. Tell them you love them and are praying for them…then actually do that, pray! God can only use a pure heart seeking His will and desires. If you do this a few times, you will allow the love of Christ to operate in you and that is what will become the love that will define you – in His image. (Colossians 2:12-17)
The key is to stretch in new ways in EVERY adversity. Look at your life and every worry, challenge, frustration, etc., and say “How can I approach this in a new biblical way contrary to my flesh? Every action we take, godly or ungodly will bear fruit. We have the power in our hands to determine the type of fruit we can and will bear, no one else! (Luke 6:44-45) So now what? Let’s get into the Word of God as never before and seek His will over our lives and every situation and do it with joy! Too many times we attempt to figure out life on our own, but will inevitably fall into our own traps if we do not seek the Father’s will but our own. As we read the Word, pray over the situations in our life, then ACT upon them, we will and can unlock our destiny because we are staying in His will and His plan can now be in full operation.
