Beautiful Slavery

Romans 6:18 “Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living 19 Because of the weakness of your human nature, I am using the illustration of slavery to help you understand all this. Previously, you let yourselves be slaves to impurity and lawlessness, which led ever deeper into sin. Now you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy.” (NLT)

Our God is greater! Greater than all things! Greater than the lies of this world, greater than the temptations of the enemy and greater than every heartache and mistake of the flesh.

Did you know that the Bible teaches us that we are all born into the nature of the flesh and that nature is one of sin. That’s right, you are a sinful creature and you didn’t even get a choice. Don’t feel too bad however because you are not the only one…every person is born into the nature of sin thanks to Adam and Eve (read Genesis for more clarification:)) (Also, read Romans 7:5-25 to hear about our sinful nature and how Christ delivers us from all! I suggest the New Living Translation of the Bible)

Because of this sinful nature, we are all tempted in sin each and every day. Before Christ comes into our lives, most of us probably actively participated in this sin and temptation because of the appeal it has to our flesh. Whether it be sex, drugs, alcohol, gossip, fowl language, anger, abuse, etc., remember what the Bible says “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God!” (Romans 3:23)

So sin and temptation of the flesh is as normal as breathing, but the Bible also tells us it leads to death and destruction. So how do we free ourselves from this sin? How do we free ourselves from this slavery of the flesh? There is only one way! Would you like to know what that is?

You see when you become a follower of Jesus, you are no longer in slavery to sin (which leads to death, destruction, emptiness and sorrow) you are in slavery to righteousness and to Christ! The thing is that this slavery is beautiful because it gives you life and life more abundantly! It gives you hope and fulfillment. It gives you freedom to death and bondage to life! You can’t escape it, you are locked into life and will never see death again as long as you are in Christ.

I love this illustration since slavery is such a negative thing from world perspective, but in Christ he makes all things new and beautiful – even slavery! WOW! How awesome is our God? He can take a horrible thing and make it beautiful.

And that is what He does, he takes us out of our filth and bondage to death and saves us into eternal life full of LOVE…a love that is everlasting and never failing. This slavery is beautiful and it releases us from death. I want to be shackled to Christ…I want to go wherever He goes and do whatever He tells me to do. I owe it to Him because He gave his life for me. I want to spend every day on this earth following His leading and doing what He commands because it spreads life across the entire earth and saves those even in the worst of circumstances.

Embrace your slavery to Christ today! Never return to the old wicked bondage that you were born into, you have been set free and He whom the Son sets free is free indeed! (John 8:36)

  1. There is freedom in obedience! Freedom from the slavery of my selfish flesh! Flesh that is crucified keeps my flesh under subjection of the Holy Spirit and washed in His Precious Blood! It is a daily fight and I am in it to win it! This battle belongs to the Lord! As Paul said “I am in bonds to Christ”(Philippians:1Verses:7,13, and 14)! Pastor Aaron, thanks for sharing this perspective of “Beautiful Slavery”!

Be Blessed and very prospered with Souls for His Kingdom with your upcoming trip to the Philippines!
