John 14:27 (NKJV) “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Do you ever find yourself without peace? Do you ever find yourself full of worry or doubt? Do you ever find yourself in a place where it seems like you can not find comfort or rest? If you are this person, I have good news for you today! Jesus gave us peace and peace everlasting! Let’s look at this a little deeper.
I love how the Amplified bible states this scripture. It says ” Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]”
There are 2 things specifically I love about this scripture and how it is described in the Amplified Bible. We’ll look at one today and one tomorrow…
1. Jesus said “…My peace I now give…Not as the world gives do I give to you…”
Jesus is beyond the things of this world! His peace, His life, His very essence is beyond anything the world could ever hope to offer. He is God, we are his creation. Many things in life are offered to grant us peace: books, CDs, prescription drugs/pills, therapy, Oprah:)
People seem to be looking for peace everywhere. They want answers. We want to know how we are going to get through each challenging situation in life and do it “correctly”. The problem is, each situation in life has about 100 different “remedies” offered in 100 different packages and all of them seem to get us there in a completely different way. In fact, many of the so called “remedies” offer more damage than good. They may get us hooked on a drug/pill, or cause us to damage a relationship, or even suicide.
How does this happen? Because these “remedies” are not of God, but of man. This is why Jesus said “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you…”
You see, Jesus is the prince of peace, the ruler of peace, the creator of peace and He is the only one with the authority to distribute this peace and release the benefits that it offers. Like everything, there are always cheap imitations and peace has many imitations.
If we stop searching for the imitation and begin searching for Jesus, we will not get a fake copy but the real thing. He is peace and He wants you to have peace RIGHT NOW! You can only access it through Him.
So how do you access Him? Prayer, reading the Bible, worship, going to church, singing, lifting your hands in praise, thanksgiving, loving others, serving others…just to name a few. Look at in this simplistic way:
When you exalt Jesus, you get Jesus!
When you serve Jesus, you get Jesus!
When you act as Jesus, you get Jesus!
When you love others, you get Jesus!
Be blessed today and more on this tomorrow!
