Colossians 3:2 (NKJV) “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
(MSG) “Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ–that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective.”
Did you know that there is an entire kingdom that exists that we don’t see? It’s the Kingdom of God and it is as real as anything we could imagine on earth. I love this scripture because it calls us out of our carnal thinking and thought process to connect with a bigger, more important life – the eternal realm and life of Heaven and eternity!
When you read this scripture in the MSG translation it really brings a unique perspective as it challenges us to realize that this kingdom is alive and has more action than any government or parliament here on earth. There is no democracy or debating there is only a kingdom that is ruled by the living God – Jesus! King Jesus sits next to the father in Heaven and rules with a power that is beyond anything imaginable by our finite human minds.
If we ask and pray to see life from this Heavenly perspective, I believe that God answers this prayer request and brings enlightenment and peace to our hectic lives here on earth. If we can daily pray and set our minds not on what is happening in front of our face but what is happening in the eternal perspective, we will walk with a different confidence as we receive wisdom and power from on high. This also causes us to live our lives with eternal perspective and keep what is really “important” important and prioritized in our lives.
I think one of the biggest challenges of the modern day Christian is not sin or anger or lust but the consumption of our time and focus by worldly things. You see, the gospel of Jesus Christ is rendered ineffective if it is not preached and taught. If the devil can constantly keep us “side-tracked” and distracted by life’s challenges, then the gospel becomes non-existent as it is kept locked away in the hearts of God’s children. When the gospel is locked away in someone’s heart it may even become locked away from the person that is holding so silently.
We must remember what the Bible says that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). If our mouths are only speaking of things on the earth, we actually will become what we speak. Life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21)…our voice has the power to change lives or lock us into death. To be carnally minded is death, to be spiritually minded is life and peace! (Romans 8:6)
Let us pray that God opens our spirit to see His kingdom and the REAL action – the life that is more important than life on this earth – eternal life!
