Desire to Reality…How Do We Do It?

“…ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

IMG_4260Have you ever thought about how God could use you to reach people? Have you ever wondered about what it would take to feed people who are hungry or clothe people who have no clothes? Have you ever had a desire in your heart but were confused on how to pursue it? I know that I have and I want to share a couple of things today to inspire you and challenge you to stretch out your faith and watch God do miracles THROUGH you!

During our recent Hope For Ireland campaign we had the desire to do just this. As God connected me with a great local ministry in the city of Dublin, we began to strategize a way to feed, clothe, pray and preach the gospel to those who have nothing. Through planning, raising money, coordination and recruiting volunteers we watched an amazing thing take place. As the appeal was given to churches we saw thousands of pieces of clothing get collected in just 3-4 weeks. Local cooks andIMG_4220 volunteers were gathered and a portable kitchen was rented to cook food for these wonderful people on the street that have so little. The priest of the Anglican Church of Ireland offered their historic cathedral building to us for the outreach and the dreams and planning became a reality as so many came through the doors. As they ate their food I had the incredible opportunity to preach Jesus and so many responded to the challenge of following Christ. Our team had so many one on one interactions and truly the Holy Spirit was powerfully at work in all of our conversations. These people were so blessed and many were eternally impacted and will never be the same!

So…how do YOU stretch out YOUR faith to do the things God is putting in your heart? It wasn’t long ago my wife Teri and I had the desire to coordinate and help people like this. We were pressed into the same challenge every good-hearted Christian is put into…HOW! How do you turn desire into reality?

The Bible says in Matthew 14:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

We can see here Jesus clearly starts us off with 2 things to turn desire into reality:

1 – Abiding in Him. When we connect with Jesus through prayer, He will show us exactly how to do something – Especially for HIS KINGDOM. He wants you to do these things but He wants to give you the plan on how to do it. Many times we may feel that in order to accomplish these tasks we have to do them on our own. Other times we may feel we should put the burden on our pastor/church to do all the work. I feel it is an absolute mixture of both concepts, however what I am getting at with this point is when you abide in Him, the Holy Spirit will guide you and show you what and how to do it! Awesome!

2 – Abiding in His Word. If you want to turn a desire into reality, read in the word about what you want to do. Sometimes our desires are fleshly and need pruning to be in alignment with God’s will. Other times we may need guidance as to what our true desires really are before we begin to step forth with action. If you abide in His word, you will allow the living word of God to speak to your spirit and bring balance to every thought you are having.

So that’s the 1st lesson. Abide in Him through prayer and reading of the word. It is so simple yet most people don’t do this and get so frustrated when they ask God for the desires of their heart. If we will humble ourselves we can hone our desires to match and be the desires of our father’s heart in Heaven.

I pray you take this simple word and take the challenge! Let the Holy Spirit guide you and be amazed at how God will use YOU. AMEN!

Are you blessed? Tell me:)

Praying for you,

Pastor Aaron

  1. I needed this reminder. I’ve been trying to redirect my focus from all of the craziness of this last year back to His Kingdom. Thank you for this
